Nea Anchialos (Fthiotides Thebes)

If you follow the coastal route for 18km southwest of Volos, you will reach Nea Anchialos, a coastal tourist town created after the Asia Minor Catastrophe. This is where Homeric Pyrasos lied, while traces of Late Neolithic, Protogeometric, Geometric and Classical habitation have been found in the area. In Late Antiquity, during the early Christian period (4th century AD) and until the 6th century AD the seaside town of “Fthiotides Thebes” was developed in this position and was the largest port in Thessaly at that time.
