Canyoning

            Canyoning is an outdoor mountain activity that combines canyoning with various other alternative activities, such as rock climbing, rappelling, swimming and caving. Canyoning often occur at the lowest point of water drainage, which surrounded by the gorge rivers and ponds with or without waterfalls. Going down the gorge requires no prior experience, no special athletic skills, as long as one has a basic physical condition.

            Specifically in the area of Pelion there are 6 canyons of small and great difficulty, which are full secured and mapped to detailed guides. Specialized companies in Volos and Pelion (Click here for more information) will accompany you to the canyons of Pelion and their crystal waters. March-June is the ideal period for canyoning.

CANYONING POINTS IN PELION

  1. Fakistra Canyon: Located below the village of Tsagarada. It is a training canyon. In spring and summer the canyon has no water, contrary to the winter months. Access to the meeting point, located on the road at the beginning of the canyon, is by car. At this point the necessary equipment is shared. The canyon ends at the beautiful beach of Fakistra and is returned by a hiking trail, which takes about 20 minutes, again leading to the original meeting point. The total duration of all activity is about 3 to 4 hours.

  • Galanorema Canyon: Located near the village of Zagora. It is a beautiful canyon with waterfalls, lakes and blue waters. The meeting point can be reached by car and it is 5 minutes by road from Zagora. Heading to the canyon requires a hike through the lush forest, which takes about 15 minutes. Starting the descent, the first point to cross is Via Ferrata, that is metals adapted on the rock. Inside the canyon you can swim, dive and rappel. Reaching to the end of the canyon it takes about 20 minutes, to reach the starting point. It is aimed at beginners and families with children over 8 years old. The activity lasts about 3 hours.
